Abstract

This study explored the role of Intelligent Technologies in the growth of emerging enterprises in South Africa from the perspectives of business intelligence, market intelligence, and competitive intelligence. Utilising a quantitative research approach based on the Dynamic Capabilities as well Intelligent Enterprise Theories, the study evaluated the impact of these technologies on SMEs' growth and development, considering variables such as company size, industry sector, and job level. Key findings revealed in terms of evaluation of technological capabilities, models, and systems that larger enterprises show a more sophisticated use of Intelligent Technologies compared to smaller ones, indicating a correlation between company size and technology adoption levels. This highlights the need for scalable solutions tailored to the diverse needs of SMEs. With regards to the role and influence of Intelligent Technologies, there is broad recognition of the value of Intelligent Technologies across all industry sectors and job levels, emphasizing their role in enhancing operational efficiency, strategic decision-making, and competitive positioning. In terms of challenges related to adoption, key barriers to technology adoption include resource limitations, knowledge gaps, and varying capabilities based on company size, which are critical considerations for SMEs aiming to leverage these technologies for growth. In conclusion, Intelligent Technologies are integral to the growth and competitiveness of emerging enterprises. A strong foundation for future adoption and integration exists, although disparities in adoption based on company size highlight the necessity for tailored strategies to maximize benefits. The study underscores the importance of strategic investment in Intelligent Technologies tailored to specific business contexts. Future research should explore causal relationships between specific technologies and growth outcomes, providing sector-specific insights and tracking long-term impacts.
