Abstract

This research has at its core, the investigation of the impact that model strategies have on learner knowledge to work relationally with mathematical objects and recognize patterns and structures that may enhance reasoning skills in mathematics. The aim of this study was to examine the transition that grade 8 learners make after using model strategies in algebraic problem-solving. This research engaged with and analysed the mathematical methods employed by Grade 8 learners when solving real-life mathematics problems
