In the dynamic business environment of today, agility, cost efficiency, quality, and effective delivery are essential for success. This study explored the role of Enterprise Business Architecture (EBA) within the South African banking industry, focusing on how banking institutions perceived and utilized EBA to align organizational strategy development and execution. The South African banking industry faced persistent challenges in aligning corporate strategy with execution often resulting in inefficiencies, delayed implementations, and cost overruns. The conceptual framework of this research was built on three primary theoretical foundations, namely: Strategic Alignment Theory, Business Process Management Theory, and Change Management Theory. This study employed a quantitative research methodology, utilizing a deductive approach to test hypotheses. Data was collected through a structured online questionnaire distributed to professionals in the South African banking industry. The population consisted of professionals involved in or knowledgeable about Enterprise Business Architecture (EBA) practices and strategic business processes. Data analysis involved reliability tests, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis to examine relationships between variables. The findings highlighted significant relationships between the predictor and predicted variables, emphasizing the importance of the bank's valuation of EBA and common knowledge of EBA practices in influencing the effectiveness of EBA use. Additionally, the alignment of strategy and IT capabilities and operational efficiencies were closely linked to the bank's valuation of EBA and the adoption of EBA practices. The study concluded that EBA plays a crucial role in aligning business strategies with IT capabilities, improving operational efficiency, and enabling digital transformation within the South African banking industry. The adoption of EBA frameworks significantly enhances the effectiveness of strategy execution and operational processes in South African banks.
