This study explores the impact of investments in the infrastructure of transport on the economy of Gauteng, focusing on assessing how these investments contribute to economic growth and social equity. Through the lens of the Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) framework, this study investigates the interactions between niche innovations, regime dynamics, and broader landscape pressures within Gauteng's transport sector. Specific objectives include examining the allocation of funding from both the public and private sectors, evaluating the role of transport infrastructure in socio-economic development, and analysing the impact of policy frameworks and digitalisation trends. The study reveals important connections between infrastructure growth and economic outcomes, shedding light on how strategic investments in transportation can spur economic productivity while fostering social inclusivity. Additionally, this study focuses on the key success factors for financing public-private partnerships in Gauteng's road and transport sector, identifying legal, regulatory, and financial mechanisms that can enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of such collaborations. Findings indicate that while large-scale projects like the Gautrain have enhanced mobility for specific groups, challenges remain regarding the equitable distribution of public resources across diverse socio-economic demographics. Ultimately, this research enhances understanding of how targeted transport infrastructure investments can drive balanced economic growth, address social disparities, and position Gauteng for a resilient and inclusive future. Recommendations are provided to guide policymakers and stakeholders in optimising infrastructure investments to achieve long-term economic and social benefits.
