Abstract
This research investigates the impact of South African cybercrime legislation on online purchasing behaviour. The study aims to understand the adequacy and effectiveness of the legislative framework in reducing perceptions of online risk and increasing consumer trust in e-commerce platforms. The research employs a qualitative approach, analysing data from legal experts, cybersecurity specialists, and academics. Key findings indicate that while South Africa has a robust legislative framework, its implementation is hindered by complexity, lack of awareness, and insufficient enforcement. The study concludes that enhancing legislative clarity, increasing public awareness, and improving enforcement mechanisms are crucial for fostering consumer trust and promoting the growth of e-commerce in South Africa.
