The study evaluates corporate diversity and inclusion efforts made in respect of LGBTQI+ individuals in selected organizations in Johannesburg, South Africa. The initial chapters lay the groundwork by outlining the study’s importance, approach, and theoretical frameworks. The Introduction and Background sets the study’s context by providing historical background, highlighting key issues, research questions, goals, and rationale. It offers an overview of the study’s framework, guiding readers through subsequent chapters. The Review of Existing Literature examines relevant practical and theoretical frameworks, including organizational diversity, human capital management, legislative protections for LGBTQI+ individuals in South Africa, and introduces a conceptual framework. It synthesizes previous research to support the empirical investigation. Methodology of the Research explains the qualitative method that is utilised in this study, the rationale behind the chosen approach and the data collection techniques. The chapter discusses population and sample selection, emphasizing the importance of diverse perspectives. Several key findings are uncovered by the study into corporate diversity and inclusion initiatives for LGBTQI+ persons in Johannesburg. It highlights some of the greatest challenges facing LGBTQI+ employees which include discrimination, lack of awareness and an absence of visibility around LGBTQI+ initiatives within organizations. The study spotlights the importance of companies having well-organized diversity programs and educational programs to help create a culture of inclusion in the workplace. Moreover, it sets out the need for organizations to be true and do not shy away from supporting LGBTQI+ rights, putting the rhetoric into practice, rather than tokenism/pink-washing. The study further demonstrated that making an active effort to promote diversity can ultimately boost employee morale and productivity, in addition to advancing corporate social responsibility for organizations. Such revelations also highlight the importance of policies that are inclusive and empower LGBTQI+ employees, transforming corporations into a more just environment.
