Even though different contractor methods have been utilised in the South African mining industry for decades and have raised debates on the public platforms on their contribution, little research has been done to explore what the affected stakeholders have experienced in their specific context. This research derives from an in-depth study of stakeholder cognition in the South African mining industry using semi-formal interviews as a form of data collection. It introduces and discusses findings from the audiences to elicit stakeholders’ knowledge, attitude and experience of the contribution of contractors to the South African mining industry and the hosting communities. All the stakeholders were asked to respond to the questionnaire about their knowledge, attitude and experience of the contribution of contractors in the South African mining industry and the hosting communities.en_ZA
