dc.description.abstractThe alignment of first-line supervisor competencies with the company strategy is critical for the first line supervisor to assist in making South African companies globally competitive. The purpose of the report was to investigate the various processes utilised to achieve competency alignment in a chemical sector company and propose an integrated framework to enhance this alignment. The investigation focused on historic data, age and education of team managers. Facilitated workshops determined roles, activities and competency alignment between management, team managers and operators. Elements of the Balanced Scorecard approach were used to define performance in terms of key result areas. The alignment processes revealed new elements that could be combined to enhance managerial competence development. Future competency profiles were discussed. An integrated framework of competency alignment was developed out of the investigation to aid the process of role clarification, competency alignment, definition of outcomes and key result areasen_US
