Abstract

The developmental state draws interest as it provides an alternative methodology of achieving development. Its basis is the success experienced by certain East Asian states in achieving development in a short space of time. Therefore the aim of this research is to ascertain whether African policy makers can draw lessons from the experience which has been encapsulated in developmental state theory. The advent of development in Africa will be discussed with special focus placed on South Africa’s economic and political landscape
