Abstract
The purpose of the study was to explore how the North West Provincial
Government (NWPG) is managing its economic growth and development
policy. In this study, an assumption is made that the successful
management EG&DP require a balanced interaction between policy
formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. In the North West
Province, the adopted policy management arrangements showed steady
progress towards the achievement the set EG&DP targets yet the
Province did not achieve those targets.
One of the main findings of the research is that the approach by the
NWPG is not comprehensive enough to deal with challenge of managing
public policy. A conclusion is made that results based monitoring and
evaluation (RBM&E) as a policy management tool has the capability to
deal with all the challenges that impact public policy management in
general and the EG&DP in particular
