Abstract
Gender discrimination has caused a gap in earnings between men and women for
decades. Although there has been a narrowing of the gender pay gap in recent
decades, there is still evidence of gender pay discrimination and the motherhood
wage penalty. This paper focuses on the gender pay gap in the manufacturing
industry of South Africa by using regression analysis and ANOVA methods on
data related to motherhood, gender and CTC (Cost-To-Company). After analyzing
the data it was found that gender does have a significant impact on income (CTC)
in the manufacturing industry of South Africa, while motherhood does not have a
significant impact on income (CTC) in the manufacturing industry of South Africa.
This provides evidence that the current efforts of government to narrow the
gender pay gap in industry are not working and more stringent efforts must be
made.
