A research report submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Art in Portuguese Language to the Faculty of Humanities, Wits School of Literature, Language and Media, University of the Witwatersrand, 2021
This research describes the involvement on the basis of the tertiary education system in South Africa, at the University of Pretoria. The investigation is aimed to understand how the implementation and usage of social platforms, namely YouTube, Instagram and Podcasts can help the learners of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, in level B1, to have more exposure of the Portuguese language outside of the classroom. The study had as objective to find out how these platforms can assist in the acquisition of Portuguese linguistic skills, namely lexical, and at the same time contribute to the autonomous working aspect which learners are encouraged to practice. The research is qualitative and is based on an action investigation, which uses methods such as questionnaires and a diary activity. In this sense, the current digital reality has imposed on us the need to research the implementation of digital methodologies in the classroom of Portuguese Foreign Language, in the South African context, as a contribution to an adaptation of educational practices to the digital world
