Abstract
The objective of this research was to assess the Knowledge Management (KM) maturity of service-based Mauritian organisations. The idea was to do a performance gap analysis in each of the five main KM practices of leadership, culture, technology, measurement and KM process. The research method adopted was a quantitative analysis of the data collected through a survey. A revised version of the Knowledge Management Assessment Tool (KMAT) diagnostic tool was used as measuring instrument to assess the prevailing KM practices. The main findings were that apart from technology, the other KM practices were not being practiced as expected. The failure to embrace KM as a business strategy and the lack of trust and openness were the main inhibitors of KM.
