ABSTRACT Migration of health professionals plays a pivotal role in the South African health care system. There are always challenges that face foreign health professionals while practicing their medical profession in a new working environment. This research report has looked at the professional experiences of Congolese doctors working at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. A qualitative research method was used and ten Congolese doctors were interviewed to understand how the acceptance, professional and social integration of foreign doctors worked in the South African health profession. The findings showed that Congolese doctors are professionals and socially integrated at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where languages was not really a challenge because some Congolese doctors could speak some of the local languages to communicate with their patients. The main challenge that was reported by Congolese doctors was the process of getting promoted and being able to continue with their medical specializations.
