Abstract
This paper is a preliminary attempt to locate the process
of deskilling of iron moulders in foundries in South Africa
between 1896 and 1950 within an analysis of the labour
process. It is an attempt to engage in a debate with
Braverman's impressive account of the capitalist labour process
through a specific study.
