Abstract

Abstract This research report examines the Afrikaans and English versions of Mark Behr’s Die Reuk van Appels (1993), written in Afrikaans and later translated by Behr into English under the title of The Smell of Apples (1995), and of André Brink’s Die Blou Deur/The Blue Door (2006). A descriptive analysis shows the different approaches adopted in the self-translation of their work and reflects on the reasons for such differences.
