| dc.description.abstract | There is a shortage of accommodation in the city of Johannesburg. Rental accommodation is one way of accommodating people in the city. There are different forms of rental stocks that are available in the inner city of Johannesburg. Affordable rental accommodation in the inner city is characterised by conditions that are considered to be unsuitable for human habitation by authorities. This research focuses on how people in the inner city are accommodated. This study uses qualitative in- depth interviews conducted in Joubert Park with people who work and relax in the park to explore how they are accommodated in the inner city of Johannesburg. The study does so by exploring literature and theoretical underpinnings related to the living conditions in high density inner city environments from the perspective of the user. Which for this study is not representative, it suggests that inner city inhabitants are accommodated in different accommodations across the city and their experiences differ based on their individual needs with most of them admitting that they are only there because of their economic situation. | en_ZA |
