Abstract

Most South Africans depend on the public sector for health services. There is an increased demand for arthroplasty in the public sector. There is a paucity academic data regarding the cost of primary hip arthroplasty. The aim of the study was to determine the cost of an uncomplicated primary hip arthroplasty. The objectives were the following: (i) to identify the factors that determine the cost and (ii) to make recommendations on cost optimisation.
