Pedagogy and art have long intermingled in the realm of cultural production, with each, in different areas of practice, taking the lead as process and product. This paper looks at the concepts that are common to both practices, through a process of investigating how they overlap and employing them as a methodology for collaborative, artistic research. Over the past two years I have used the concepts of self examination, critical analysis of discourse, emergence, reflection, and action to collaborate with two printmaking organizations --Taller Artístico Comunitario in Oaxaca, Mexico and Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg, South Africa. Through a narrative description of these experiences, which also includes a brief outline of their histories, I identify several tensions that result from and contribute to the meaningful creation of such a cultural space, and which, perhaps, are necessary conditions of the intersection of pedagogy and arten_ZA
