dc.description.abstractSouth Africa faces a perpetual challenge of an ever-increasing housing backlog that indicates it is unable to keep up with the housing demands of its ever growing and rapidly urbanizing population. This has necessitated the government to look into subsidized rental housing as an alternative form of housing to meet the housing needs of the urban population. This research study explores the perceptions of social housing stakeholders on the use of restructuring zones to plan for the development of social housing. The study employed qualitative fieldwork interviews and conducted a thematic analysis of emergent themes from these qualitative semi-structured interviews. The study discussed these perceptions of stakeholders using literature identified in the conceptual framework to explain themen_ZA
