Abstract
The first component of this project looked at the production of secondary metabolites
by mycelial actinomycetes which could prove useful in the bioremediation of dyes and
rubber. Through the screening of a genomic library relevant genes were identified. The
second component focussed on the brief characterization of biotechnologically relevant
antimicrobials and phytase. The third component dealt with method development
through the improvement of a broad host range selective vector and the regeneration of Streptomyces spp. in liquid broth.
