This research project examines the translations of two poems for translation equivalence and shifts in equivalence. After examining types of equivalence as applied to the translation of poetry, the aim will be to Identify that, because the two poems chosen for analysis are of different types, they require equivalence on different levels. The practical analysis and assessment of the two poems and their translations will illustrate the issues raided and establish exactly which levels of equivalence are required and/or possible in the translation of each one of these poems.en_ZA
