dc.description.abstractClinics are often not designed to give an optimal end-user experience as people tend to wait in long queues or simply have a hard time finding their way around the clinic. How can the design of a clinic be approached in a manner that provides a better service and end-user experience? This report looks at designing a new building typology for a clinic in today’s society. The site is situated in Freedom Park (Devland), Soweto in the south of Johannesburg and a larger clinic facility is required in the area due to the rapid development and population growth that has taken place over time. The aim is to design a new primary health care clinic in Freedom Park and to illustrate an improved end-user experience based on the research findings. This report challenges the existing building typology of a clinic by looking at the issues that exist in current clinics and exploring a synergy with a women and children safe house.
