THE MENTORING OF PASTORS IN THE ASSEMBLIES OF GOD CHURCH IN SOUTH AFRICA
    (2012-10-04) MAPHANGA, MPUMELELO JACKSON
This study examines the mentoring of pastors in the Assemblies of God church in South Africa. The church previously had quality leaders, and the problem is that the: quality leadership is waning. The purpose is to assess current church mentoring against the transformational model in the literature, which argues for this model to address knowledge gap. I argue that mentoring pastors will benefit all people. I choose the critical social science framework, and other theories for analysis. I use the qualitative approach, for field study, on the historical-comparative technique. From a pastor- population, a small sample is selected, and data analysed on themes, and collected through interviews. Findings reveal that the church operates on an undeveloped traditional mentoring model, and church power structures oppress pastors. The assessment shows that transformational model is relevant. Conclusions outline suggestions and recommendations. Research is limited to the organisational, researcher, communication, geographical, gender, time, and literature aspects
