Abstract
The city holds an infinite amount of possibilities with
regards to wealth, power and knowledge. However, I
believe the latter has not been adequately addressed,
especially with regard to primary and secondary
education. Therefore I would like to investigate schools
situated in the inner city. To trace the origins of the
prototypical school design and to challenge certain
aspects of conventional urban and suburban schools.
This investigation will help to formulate and isolate the
requirements of establishing schools within the urban
environment. Secondly I would like to suggest that a
new trend towards grouping or clustering of education
and information resources be challenged and instead
suggest that learning institutions be located within
range of other cultural institutions so that these
facilities can benefit from such an association.
