Abstract
A variety of radioacrosols have been tested in the past for lung ventilation scintigraphy in the assessment of pulmonary thromboembolism, Amongst these are the bone scan agent technetium 99m C"' re) methylene diphosphonate CMDP) and the myocardial perfusion agent methoxy isobutyl isonitrile (MIBI). However, diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) currently remains the most commonly utilized The aim of this study was to compare the image quality and alveolar clearance Of MDP, DTPA and MlBl as ventilating agents in patients being investigated for pulmonary thromboembolisrn. Patients referred to our institution from August 2015 to July 2017 fora ventilation perfusion ( VQ) scan, who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were enrolled into the study as participants. Each ventilation agent was used to ventilate 43 panicipants, making a total Of 129 participants in the Study. Images wcrc assessed for quality and alveolar Clearance qualitatively and semi quantitatively respectively by a nuclear medicine physician blinded to the agent used. MIRI had superior image quality and slower alveolar clearance, with statistically very significant different results when compared to DTPA.
