Femicide in South African news media (2012/2013)


This database lists South African news media text reports in English and Afrikaans of female homicide victims aged 14 years and older (femicide) who were killed between 01 April 2012 and 31 March 2013. The database includes a victim and incident section, which includes information sourced from the media reports about the victim demographics, the location, and cause of death, and any data about the perpetrator including the relationship to the victim if this was reported, and whether or not any arrests or convictions were reported. The second part of the database lists the media coverage associated with the victim, from the time of her death until August 2017 (last date of data capture), which includes the platform or publication, the date of publication, the byline, and a reference for the URL and/or the file name of the association article.
