Abstract
In this paper are described three Hystricomorphs from the Australopithecus prometheus layer of the Makapan Valley Limeworks Quarry, Transvaal. Besides Hystrix cf. H.africae-australis, a new genus and species Xenohystrix crassidens and a new species Hystrix major are recognized.
