The purpose of the study is first, to get a clearer picture on the nature of unemployment in South Africa by identifying its sources and drivers and then, prescribe appropriate policies. The main challenge is the structural nature of the problem, which would require a solution that is structurally focused in order to yield a sizable impact on the problem. From the ‘Each One Hire One’ articles published in the Sunday Times newspaper, featuring prominent leaders from business, government, academia, labour unions and NGOs, a policy of industrialisation supported by improved education and healthy families as well as trust and unity emerged. The process by which this policy was formulated was through a qualitative method employing a thematic approach.
