WireDSpace. https://hdl.handle.net/10539/38719https://hdl.handle.net/10539/38719A Research report presented for the degree of Masters in Economic Science in the School of Economics and Finance, University of the Witwatersrand, 2023This paper investigates the relationship between the impact of economic institutional factors on female and male labour force participation rates (LFPR) in the 38 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) from the period 2005 to 2021. The study utilises the Common Correlated Effects Mean Group (CCE-MG) estimator to account for cross-sectional dependence between the variables. The outcome of this model showed that physical property rights index and political stability index is both significant and positively related to female and male labour force participation rates. However, there are two other economic institutional variables that affect the male labour force participation rate model, namely the intellectual property rights index and the government effectiveness index. This research aims to contribute to the field of Gender Economics at a macroeconomic level and paves the way for future studiesen© 2023 University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
