The fossil Diptera are placed In the following families: Tipulidae, Empididae, Hybotidae, Bibionidae, and possibly the Mycetophilidae, Rhagionidae and Anisopodidae. A new pulid species, Helius botswanensis (Tipulidae, subfamily Limoniinae), is described; it is the oldest representative of the subfamily.
